New Moon Rituals
New moons are a great time to release limiting beliefs and set clear intentions on the life you want to live. By removing old patterns that no longer serve you and setting clear intentions, you make way for your manifestations to enter in your life in full speed. "It's the time to plant the seeds for your manifestations and put fire behind your new ventures," says Ellen Bowles, astrologer of The Woke Mystix, a platform dedicated to the discussion of spirituality and astrology, and author of Astrology SOS.
To harness the powers of the new moon energy, I take space for myself to meditate and set clear intentions for the life I desire. Here is a breakdown of my meditation ritual and how I set my intention:
Meditation
During the new moon, I set a goal to meditate three times that day (morning, afternoon, and nighttime). My typical routine consists of me meditating in the morning and nighttime but I ensure that I get an afternoon meditation in during a new moon, especially because the new moon helps me feel so energized throughout the day.
Upon waking up, I take a few moments in bed to get in a nice stretch and give my gratitude to the universe for the opportunity to have a new day full of opportunities and fun. Then, I make my way to my altar space, open up my windows and say hello to the birds, trees, and sunshine. I thank them all for showing up for me and for providing so much vibrancy to my life. By acknowledging the life forces outside of my immediate family, I feel a strong connection to earth and this helps remind me that I am part of a bigger than myself.
When I make my way to my altar, I light a candle that calls out to me and as I light my candle, I thank my angels and spirit guides for being present with me during my morning meditation. After lighting a candle, I cleanse my altar space using a palo santo (I ensure that I only obtain palo santo that are ethically sourced and from local or indigenous families) and I repeat this mantra "I call my energy and my power from all times, all places, and beings. I am my own". As a highly sensitive person with an undefined spleen center in my human design, I can take on and amplify the fears of those around me. Knowing this, I have to actively call my energy back to my body, return any energies that others have projected onto me, and cleanse my energy. I also include a cleansing crystal like Clear Quartz or Selenite. If I do not actively practice this, my emotions may get the best of me and I can won't be able to show up for myself.
After calling my energy back and cleansing my space and energy field, I take 5-10 deep breaths by inhaling through my nose and exhaling out of my mouth. Once I feel ready to enter the inner realms of my being, I start to inhale through my nose and exhale through my nose. Once I am in this new state of being, I notice my thoughts and express my gratitude to the universe for all the love and support that continuously flows into my life. In my human design cognition layer, my "super sense" trait is my inner vision. This means that I should really tap into my visualizations to craft an imagined reality. I have found tapping into my inner vision comes fairly easy for me and I find so much joy in taking myself to different scenes and place I've envisioned in my mind. When working with the new moon energy, I ensure that I spend more time tapping into my inner vision to visualize my manifestation becoming a reality.
Whenever I feel ready to get back to my physical realm reality, I gently move my fingers and toes and I remind myself that I am safe and grounded.
I repeat this process during my afternoon and nighttime meditation.
Intention Setting:
Once I am back in the physical realm, I grab my journal and I write out everything I am grateful for and I write a whole page full of affirmations.
Here are some affirmations I write to myself every day:
- I forgive myself
- I transmute my pain and suffering into a greater capacity to love
- I am magnetic and I flow with ease
- Every day, I grow more and more loving and kind
After writing my daily affirmations, I clear my mind to get ready to write my intentions for the day. Intention setting is clearly stating what you want to experience and the actions you will take to achieve that experience. When I first started writing my intentions, my thoughts felt vague and I did not know how to be be clear with what I wanted to achieve. But as I continued to be consistent with my meditation, I obtained more clarity and felt the words flow through my being.
I end my meditation and intention setting by grabbing my bluetooth speaker and playing a song for me and my angels to vibe out on.
If you are unable to meditate or journal your intentions, you can take a calming bath, create a vision board, tidy up your space, or even just set a 1 minute timer to breathe and state one realistic action you can take to get closer to your goals. Whatever it is, ensure that you honor yourself, express gratitude, and have fun!
